Man injured in 'gunfight' with cops in Khulna

Police arrested a listed criminal following a “gunfight” at Bagmara in Khulna city early yesterday. The arrestee, Azizul Islam, 23, son of Habibul Islam of Morelganj in Bagerhat, is undergoing treatment at Khulna Medial College Hospital for his bullet wounds.

Sensing presence of police, his cohorts opened fire forcing them to return fire, said police.

Police said Azizul, who is the prime accused in college teacher Chittaranjon Bain killing case, admitted that he along with his cohorts stuffed a piece of cloth into the college teacher's mouth while robbing his house which led to his death.

Azizul is accused in seven other cases. Chittaranjon, 45, was killed on January 15 in Khulna. Police so far arrested four persons in the case. Five policemen were also injured.
