Man held while smuggling foreign currencies at Dhaka airport

Customs intelligence officials today detained a man and seized foreign currencies worth over Tk 25 lakh from him at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.

Md Osman, 44, from Chittagong, was trying to fly Dubai in a flight of Bangladesh Biman. He admitted that he was trying to smuggle the money.

The currencies were hidden inside a shopping bag, said Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Director General Moinul Khan.

Tipped-off, customs intelligence officials frisked him in the check-in counter area around 12:45am. Saudi riyals, UAE dirham and Oman riyals amounting to Tk 25,46,000 was recovered from his possession.

He was arrested on charges under anti-money laundering act, Moinul Khan said.
