Man arrested with nearly 3kg of gold at Dhaka airport

Customs officials arrested a man with 24 gold bars weighing 2.78kg at the capital's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport yesterday.

Sarwar Kamal of Cox's Bazar arrived in Dhaka from Muscat via Chittagong, said the officials.

The gold bars worth around Tk 1.3 crore was found in his shoes, said HM Ahsanul Kabir, assistant commissioner of customs.

Sarwar claimed he brought the gold from Chittagong but the officials suspected any international passenger brought those from Oman and handed to him over during the Chittagong-Dhaka trip.
