Maintain code of conduct
CJ asks lower court judges
Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain yesterday asked lower court judges to maintain code of conduct in and outside the courtroom so that countrymen do not lose faith on them.
“A judge is always a judge. We have to be cautious about everything -- in our behaviour and movement. We have to talk carefully,” he said.
He was addressing an event arranged by the Bangladesh Judicial Service Association (BJSA) at a city hotel to felicitate him for assuming the post of chief justice.
The chief justice also asked lower court judges to follow the High Court circulars, arrange judicial conferences regularly, visit courts and enhance supervision, and ensure sending case statements to the HC rightly.
He urged the law minister to take effective steps so that court activities are not hampered due to the absence and shortage of judges.
He said a number of sensational cases could be disposed quickly in recent time because of dedication of the judges. He urged them to continue the pace.
“Ensuring justice and the rule of law are prerequisite to institutionalise democracy,” the chief justice added.
Speaking as the chief guest, Law Minister Anisul Huq said the ministry will initiate e-judiciary system in courts to reduce backlog of huge number of pending cases.
BJSA President Judge SM Kuddus Zaman, among others, spoke at the ceremony.
