Madrasa teacher 'sexually abuses' 8-yr-old student

Police yesterday arrested a madrasa teacher for "abusing” an eight-year-old student in Shreepur upazila of Gazipur district.

The arrestee is Furkan Ahmed, 24, the lone teacher of Mohammadia Hafizia Madrasa having around 10 students.

Rajib Kumar Saha, a sub-inspector of Shreepur Police Station, said the student was continuing his education staying in the madrasa hostel.

On Friday (September 15), Furkan asked the student to wait in the classroom after the classes ended. Then the teacher "abused" him around 4:00pm and sent him back home forcibly, said the police officer.

The next day, when his mother asked him to go to the madrasa, the boy burst into tears, saying that he would never go to that madrasa.

Later, on Tuesday, the boy disclosed the reason to his mother.

On Wednesday, the victim's father filed a case against the teacher with Shreepur Police Station, said the SI.

Police arrested him near the madrasa yesterday and produced him before a court, which sent him to jail, the SI added.

Meanwhile, police sent the victim to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital for a medical test.

Contacted, Shuman Haq, who financed establishing the madrasa, said Furkan had joined the institution around three months back.

He was irregular in his duties for the last few days, said Shuman, adding that Furkan might have returned to the madrasa thinking that the boy did not disclose the matter to anyone.
