Luxurious BMW car seized in Gulshan for dodging tax

Customs Intelligence today seized a luxurious BMW car worth around Tk one crore from Gulshan area of Dhaka for dodging tax.

The car, a black BMW SUV of 7 Series E65 model, was seized from a garage in Gulshan area around 10:00am, said Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Director General Moinul Khan.

It was brought to Bangladesh under quota for ‘privileged person’ and later it was subjected to diplomatic misuse after its owner left Bangladesh, which is punishable under the Customs Act, he said.

The car belonged to one Santosh Dhungana, a Nepali national who was a consultant at United Nations Department of Safety & Security (UNDSS), until he left Bangladesh early 2016, according to locals.

No valid documents was found on the import or purchase tax of the car, the CIID chief said.
