New law to protect forest resources

Says Amu

Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday sought special attention of the people to tackle adverse impacts of climate change and save the environment.

He also said the government will formulate a law for protecting forest resources to maintain ecological balance.

"Environmental degradation is causing serious health hazard which leads to different diseases including cancer, kidney ailment and high blood pressure," he said while inaugurating a three-day fruit bearing tree fair at Jhalakathi Shilpakala Academy. The minister urged all to plant fruit bearing and medicinal trees at home yards considering such health hazards.

He also said filling of canals and other water bodies should be stopped to protect the environment.

The Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) organised the fair. Acting deputy commissioner Manikhar Rahman, district Awami league president Sardar M Shah Alam and divisional forest officer Mohammad Golam Quddus Bhuiyan also spoke on the occasion.
