Detectives busted an Yaba manufacturing factory in Mirpur of Dhaka city and detained five people for their alleged involvement in manufacturing the contraband tablets last night.

The detainees are: Jashimuddin alias Shimul, Syed Tariqul Islam alias Suman, Jubayer Hossain Juel, Ali Akbar and Kirti Azad alias Tutul. Jashimuddin is said to be a chemist.

Tipped-off that a gang was planning to set up a Yaba factory in Mirpur-2, detectives raided the area, Abdul Baten, joint commissioner of Detective Branch, said at a press briefing today.

“As smuggling Yaba from Myanmar is risky, they were trying to manufacture the Yaba pills here,” the official said adding the demand for the drug is high in Bangladesh.

Initially they were installing the set up with a capacity of 50,000 tablets per hour, he said.

500 pieces of yaba tablets, a tablet manufacturing machine and chemical components used in making the contraband drugs were recovered during the drive, he said.
