Language hero Shaikh Reaz passes away

Prof Shaikh Reaz Uddin Ahmed, a freedom fighter and a language movement veteran, died from old age complications at his Balashpur Palpara residence in Mymensingh town on Sunday, aged 80.

He left behind his wife, five sons, and a daughter to mourn his death.

He was buried at his village home in Chamurtha of Gafargaon upazila in Mymensingh at night on the day.

Reaz, also a writer, had been suffering from eye, kidney and heart related diseases for a long time.

Reaz joined the Language Movement under the leadership of his schoolteacher Subodh Chandra Bose and Awami League leader Ahmed Ali Mandol of Sreepur in Gazipur when he was a school student.

A former professor of Islamic history and culture of Alamgir Monsur Memorial College, Reaz was also an organiser of 1971 Liberation War.
