Khaleda's review petition hearing July 29

The Supreme Court yesterday fixed July 29 for hearing two petitions filed by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia seeking review of its order that had asked the High Court to conclude hearing on her appeal in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case by July 31.

Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, chamber judge of the SC's Appellate Division, fixed the date after a brief hearing on the review petitions.

Khaleda's review petitions will be heard by a full bench of the apex court on July 29, her lawyer Barrister Kayser Kamal told The Daily Star.

On May 16, the SC directed the HC bench led by Justice M Enayetur Rahim to conclude Khaleda's appeal hearing in the corruption case by July 31.

In the case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission, a Dhaka court on February 8 sentenced Khaleda to five years' imprisonment. It also sentenced and her son Tarique Rahman, now acting chairman of BNP, and four others to 10 years' imprisonment and fined them Tk 2.1 crore.
