Sixty-nine days after the burial of her younger son Arafat Rahman Koko, a tearful Khaleda Zia visited his grave at Banani Graveyard and offered fateha this evening.

The BNP chief offered fateha with party leaders and activists and joined the munajat beside the grave, seeking the salvation of the departed soul.

Khaleda, who returned to her Gulshan residence on Sunday from her political office after nearly 92 days, broke into tears minutes after she reached Koko’s grave.

She recited from the holy Quran sitting on a chair beside Koko’s grave for around 10 minutes.

On January 24, Koko died of a cardiac arrest at the age of 45 at his rented house in Malaysia. His body was flown to Dhaka on January 27 and was buried after a namaz-e-janaza at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on the same day.

Khaleda was said to be confined during that time to her Gulshan office where she had a glimpse of Koko’s dead body.

Khaleda last met her younger son in Bangkok in June 2013 on her way to the United States.

The BNP chief had been staying in her Gulshan office since January 3. She came out of the office for the first time on Sunday to appear before a court at Bakshibazar in Dhaka seeking bail in two graft cases filed against her.

After securing the bail, she returned to her residence.
