Khaleda Zia 'confined to jail' to keep her out of polls

Khandaker Mosharraf tells Ctg meeting

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been confined to jail through a “false case” in a bid to keep her out of polls, alleged party leader Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain.

If rule of law had existed in the country, Khaleda would have been released after an appeal filed with the higher court, said Mosharraf, also standing committee member of BNP, during a meeting at a community centre in the port city. Chittagong city unit of BNP organised the meeting,

demanding release of Khaleda Zia.

Mosharraf said a free, fair and participatory election is not possible by keeping BNP and Khaleda Zia out of polls. The people will not let it happen, he added.

Mosharraf said people started to protest against the “autocratic” government.

He alleged that BNP leaders and activists are being sent to jail in “false cases” although they are conducting peaceful movement as per Khaleda's instruction.

“We will go for tougher movements when the time will come,” he warned.

Mosharraf demanded that the government transfer Khaleda to United Hospital to ensure her proper treatment.

BNP national standing committee member Ameer Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Vice Chairman Mir Mohammad Nasir Uddin spoke among others at the meeting with city unit President Shahadat Hossain in the chair.
