Bodies of Kalyanpur militants buried

Star file photo dated July 26, 2016, shows the interior of the Kalyanpur house where the nine militants were holed up. They all died in a police raid. Later, a search inside yielded a flag of the Islamic State and some arms.

A charity organisation buried the bodies of nine Kalyanpur militants today, months after they were killed in a raid and waiting for relatives to claim the bodies.

Anjuman-e-Mafidul Islam was at Dhaka Medical College’s morgue to collect the bodies, said Sohel Mahmud, head of the college’s forensic medicine department.

Around 2:00pm, the bodies were buried after a namaz-e-janaza, Mawlana Md Shoaid Hossain, in-charge of Jurain graveyard, told The Daily Star.

Nine militants were killed in a highly lauded raid in Dhaka’s Kalyanpur on July 26 that followed two major terrorist attacks – the Gulshan restaurant attack and Sholakia attack.

Later on, the militants were all found linked to one another.

Similar to the aftermath of Gulshan attack, none of the relatives of the militants killed in the Kalyanpur drive claimed the bodies. Those were left abandoned at the mortuary.

Last week, Anjuman-e-Mafidul Islam buried the bodies of Gulshan attack militants.
