JU BCL men beat JCD leader unconscious

Leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) of Jahangirnagar University unit beat up a Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader on the campus yesterday.

Nabinul Islam Nabin, vice-president of JU JCD unit and resident student of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman hall, took treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

A group of BCL men led by Shakil Mahmud Shawon, Sanaul Haque and Firozur Rahman Sabuj, beat up Nabin at Bismail gate around 1:30pm with iron roads and hockey sticks and left him unconscious, said an eyewitness.

SM Abu Sufian Chanchal, general secretary  of JU BCL, said, “Nabin tried to create unrest marking the January 5 [election], so some junior BCL men beat him up.”

Proctor Prof Tapan Kumar Saha said, “Action will be taken after the victim files a complaint.”
