JS by-election winners Shameem, Farhad sworn in

The newly elected lawmakers of Jatiya Party and Awami League, Shameem Haidar Patwari and BM Farhad Hossain respectively, were sworn in yesterday.

Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury administered the oath ceremony in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, said a parliament secretariat press release.  

Shameem won the Gaibandha-1 (Sundarganj) by-polls while ruling AL candidate Farhad won the Brahmanbaria-1 (Nasirnagar) by-polls, both held on March 13.

Brahmanbaria-1 constituency fell vacant following the death of fisheries and livestock minister Sayedul Hoque on last December 16 while Gaibandha-1 seat fell vacant after AL lawmaker Golam Mostafa Ahmed died in a road accident on last December 19.
