Journalist Rakib dies

Veteran journalist Sheikh Rakib Uddin passed away yesterday due to old age complications at a hospital in the capital. He was 85.

Rakib Uddin, a senior journalist of The Independent, breathed his last at the BIRDEM Hospital at 5:30am, according to a press release issued by Jatiya Press Club.

He left behind his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.

A permanent member of Jatiya Press Club, Rakib Uddin was buried at Azimpur graveyard following a namaj-e-janaza.

He started his career at the Daily Azad where he also served as the chief reporter. Later, he also worked for the United News of Bangladesh (UNB).

Jatiya Press Club President Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman and General Secretary Farida Yasmin expressed shock at his death and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) has expressed deep shock at the demise of Sheikh Rakib, also the founder vice president of DCAB.

DCAB President Rezaul Karim Lotus and its Secretary General Mahfuzur Rahman Mishu in a condolence message conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
