Rangpur Hospital

Interns enforce indefinite strike

The intern doctors of Rangpur Medical College Hospital started an indefinite strike yesterday, protesting an “attack” on their fellow on Sunday.

At a human chain on the campus, they also raised several demands -- a safe workplace, introduction of an entry card system and deployment of Ansar personnel.

Gouranga Chandra Roy, an intern, alleged that one of his fellows, Foysal Bin Saleh, was attacked by a patient's relative on the day.

The next day, the interns handed over a memorandum to Dr Moudud Hossain, director of the hospital, urging him to meet their demands. But, the hospital authorities did not take any initiative in this regard, alleged Gouranga.

Mohammad Razu, assistant director (admiration) of the hospital, said although the intern doctors went on the strike, they provided emergency services. The hospital authorities will hold a meeting tomorrow to discuss their demands.
