Injunction on Ashiyan City housing project

The Supreme Court today issued an injunction restraining all activities including selling plots and advertisement of Ashiyan City housing project in Dhaka's Uttara area.

The apex court also stayed a High Court order that on August 16 scrapped an earlier verdict declaring the Ashiyan City housing project illegal.

The SC order will remain effective until a leave to appeal petition is filed with the court against the August 16 verdict.

A five-member bench of the Appellate Dividion headed by Chief Justice SK Sinha passed the order following a petition filed by eight rights organisations seeking a stay on the HC order.

Syeda Rezwana Hasan, a lawyer for the rights organisations told The Daily Star that Ashiyan city authorities cannot run any activities of its housing project in Holan and Ashkona of Dhaka following the SC order.
