India's support to Myanmar shocks BNP

The BNP yesterday expressed surprise over India's support to Myanmar's Aung San Suu Kyi's policy on the Rohingya issue.

"India claims to be one of the democratic countries, but they've extended their support to Aung San Suu Kyi's policy. Narendra Modi supported it. We're surprised and shocked…," said BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi.

He was talking to reporters at a human chain formed by Jatiyatabadi Muktijoddha Dal in front of the capital's Jatiya Press Club protesting the persecution of Rohingyas by Myanmar's security forces.

He also criticised the Bangladesh government for not taking any visible step to mount pressure on the Myanmar authorities.

The BNP leader alleged that though the UN and some Muslim countries are raising their voice against the repression, the Bangladesh government is not taking any strong stance.
