India extends walk-in tourist visa facility

No appointment date necessary for travellers with journey tickets

Bangladeshi travellers having a confirmed journey ticket by air, bus or train can avail walk-in tourist visas for India.

The travellers will not require any e-token or online appointment date to submit the application for the tourist visa in all Indian Visa Application Centres (IVACs) across Bangladesh, with effect from February 1.

The walk-in tourist visa scheme was launched first in October 2016 for women travellers and their family members, and thereafter extended to all Bangladeshis applying in Dhaka from January 1 this year.

Now the scheme is being extended to the remaining eight IVACs -- in Rajshahi, Rangpur, Sylhet, Chittagong, Khulna, Jessore, Mymensingh, and Barisal, according to a press release of the High Commission of India yesterday. Applicants in Dhaka with confirmed journey tickets may continue to submit their tourist visa applications on a walk-in basis at IVAC Mirpur.

“This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to streamline, liberalize and ease the process of securing Indian visas,” said the release, adding, “The scheme has eased access to Indian visas for Bangladesh nationals.”
