Improve services at police stations

DMP chief asks colleagues

Dhaka Metropolitan Police commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia yesterday asked all concerned to improve service standards in each police station as it is perceived as the visage of police to the city dwellers.

All the success the DMP achieved in various other fields will be blemished by the delivery of below par service quality at the police stations, he said while addressing at a monthly crime conference at the DMP headquarters.

The residents of the capital in recent days were relieved to witness a number of successful operations by DMP's counter terrorism unit as it neutralised a handful of terror plots by either apprehending or gunning down several top terror suspects.

However, many of the residents have been raising their concern over harassment and alleged "arrest trades" at the police stations.

The commissioner at the conference urged all members of the force to ensure transparency and accountability in every step of the way.

Asaduzzaman expressed his dissatisfaction over the slow progress of data entry work for creating a centralised tenants' database titled Citizen Information Management System (CIMS), meeting sources said.

According to DMP sources, 49 police stations of DMP have so far collected around 20 lakh tenant information forms against 22 lakh distributed forms

The forms are to be scrutinised first before being entered in the CIMS. Till date nearly 12 lakh forms have been scrutinized and one lakh of the forms have been eneterd in the CIMS, said the sources.

The city police chief asked all to put their best effort in expediting the data processing work of the CIMS as it would be an essential tool for the law enforcers in deterring and detecting criminals.
