Terming some political leaders’ comments over the recent anti-militancy drives across the country “irresponsible”, Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Haque today said they were trying to demean the law enforcers’ effort to curb militancy.

“Some political leaders’ irresponsible comments on the recent anti-militancy drives have drawn my attention. They were trying to demean the efforts of the law enforcers in curbing militancy from the country,” said the IGP.

AKM Shahidul said these at a programme on handing over financial aid to the family members of the slain police officials during the blast in Sylhet recently at the police headquarters in Dhaka.

“Policemen and the people of the country are rejecting those ill-efforts. Moreover, those comments will encourage militants,” he said.

He also requested those to stop saying such “irresponsible”, “fictitious” and “false” comments, at a time when the nation is united against the militants.

Thanking people for their efforts during anti-militancy drives, the IGP said, “We will continue our efforts against militants with the support and company of the people.”
