Breaking a long silence, ruling party lawmaker Shamim Osman has publicly extended his support for Awami League candidate Selina Hayat Ivy for the upcoming Narayanganj City Corporation polls.

Refuting rumors that there is a standing conflict between them, Shamim said he is prepared to “resign from parliament and campaign for Ivy for the greater interest of Awami League.”

Awami League has nominated Selina Hayat Ivy, the last mayor of Narayanganj city, to run for the post again in the elections slated to be held on December 22.

Awami League president and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reportedly instructed her party men to extend her all-out support where Narayanganj’s leaders including Shamim Osman were present.

However, Selim Osman from the influential Osman family of Narayanganj was silent thus far in this issue – which he chose to break today.

Terming Ivy a “competent candidate,” Selim Osman, while speaking at a press conference at Nasim Osman Memorial Park, said Awami League will start campaigning for Ivy from tomorrow.

District Awami League general secretary Abu Hasnat Shahid Badal, city AL president Anwar Hossain and some other local level leaders were present in the press conference.
