Human chain formed in Ctg for Rampal

Bangabandhu Sanskritik Jote, Chittagong unit, formed a human chain at Cheragi Intersection in Chittagong city in favour of Rampal coal-fired power plant.

The speakers said people are protesting the power plant due to their “ignorance”.

Mafizur Rahman, general secretary of Chittagong south district unit Awami League, told the programme that modern technology would be used in the project that would “ensure” safety of the Sundarbans.

Coal power plant is “one of the main sources” of power all over the world, he said.

Chowdhury Hasan Mahmud Hasni, a councillor in Chittagong city, said the power plant will be set up around 70km off the forest. “So, nothing to be worried.”
