Housewife killed for not giving property to husband

Claims deceased's family

A housewife, allegedly killed by her husband on Sunday afternoon, used to be tortured for long as she refused to handover her property to him, claimed her family members.

Taslima Sultana Eva, 40, was beaten to death allegedly by her husband Moniruzzaman Babu in her East Monipur residence.

Her brother Ali Ashfaque filed a murder case on that night with Mirpur Police Station accusing three persons -- Moniruzzaman, his mother Hamida Akhter and his sister Sima Begum. Police arrested Moniruzzaman soon after the incident.

Mamun Khan, a maternal uncle of the deceased, said Eva's in-laws had been trying to get hold of Eva's property, which she inherited from her late father, for the last two years. They recently increased their level of torture. Earlier, they also pressurised Eva for realising many demands.

Nazrul Islam, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station, said Moniruzzaman had yet to admit to the murder, but police found torture marks on the victim's body.

Moniruzzaman was sent to court seeking a 10-day remand; but the court granted a two-day remand on Monday.
