Housewife burnt in Demra gas explosion dies

A newly married housewife, who sustained burn injuries following a “gas explosion” at a flat in Dhaka’s Demra area on October 23, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) today.

Ratna Begum succumbed to her wounds at the burn unit of the DMCH around 10:00am, Dr Partha Sankar Paul, resident surgeon of the hospital, told The Daily Star.

The last wish of 18-year-old Ratna was just to see her husband Tofayel Ahmed, 25, who was also undergoing treatment at a floor above in the hospital.

The couple along with six others of a family sustained burn injuries in a fire broke out from “gas explosion” in the capital's Demra area four days back.

Tofayel is still unaware of his wife’s death as he was also suffering with inhalation burns.

The rest six injured were still undergoing treatment at the hospital.
