Minor house help falls off building while trying to escape torture

A minor house help today got hurt falling from the sixth floor of a 13-storey building while trying to escape torture reportedly by the house owner in Dhanmondi area of Dhaka.

Injured Sharif, 11, along with another house help Shwapan, 11, was trying to escape the house of one Golam Kibria through a toilet ventilator around 9:30 am, Md Kajal Mia, senior station officer of the Fire Service and Civil Defence in Mohammadpur, told The Daily Star.

While, trying to escape, Sharif fell down on the gorund, leaving him seriously injured and Shwapan got stuck on the sunshade of the fifth floor, he said.

Locals rescued Sharif and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Later, firefighters went to the spot at Dhanmondi 14/A and rescued Shwapon from the sunshade.

The family members used to keep them confined in the house and inflict torture, police said quoting the victims.

Abdullahil Kafi, additional deputy commissioner (ADC) of Ramna Division said that four members of the family, including house owner Golam Kibria and his wife, were detained in this connection.
