Hermaphrodite shot over begging territory feud in Uttara of capital

A hijra (hermaphrodite) was shot by rivals in the capital's Uttara yesterday morning.

Manik alias Shejuti along with other hijras were standing behind the Rajuk market at sector-7 when a group led by hijra Swapna and Kochi, arrived on a microbus and motorcycle, hijras and police said.

They beat Shejuti and shot in the back before fleeing.

Ali Hossain Khan, officer-in-charge of Uttara Pashchim police, told The Daily Star that the incident might have taken place over begging territory in the area.

"We have detained two for interrogation," the OC said.

Shejuti is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
