Fake FF certificate: HC seeks PWD engr’s explanation on holding post

The High Court today issued a rule asking the authorities concerned under what authority engineer Hafizur Rahman alias Tipu Munshi has been discharging duties as acting chief engineer of Public Works Department.

In the rule, the HC asked the authorities to show cause as to why the “fake” freedom fighter certificate of Tipu Munshi should not be cancelled.

The authorities were also asked why the name of Munshi should not be cancelled from the gazette notification that contains his name as freedom fighters.

The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath issued the rule following a writ petition filed challenging the legality of Munshi’s holding office as acting chief engineer of the department.

Md Tareque Hasan Khan, a Dhaka court lawyer, filed the petition saying the service of Tipu Munshi was extended for three years as he submitted freedom fighter certificate on December 28 in 2013.

But he cannot hold his position as his certificate is fake, the petitioner said adding that liberation war affairs ministry found the certificate fake after investigation.

Munshi submitted the certificate on August 22 this year.
