HC scraps govt relief scam case against Falu

The High Court yesterday scrapped the trial proceedings of a relief scam case filed against BNP leader Mosaddek Ali Falu during the regime of military-backed caretaker government in 2007.

After hearing a petition filed by Falu for quashing the trial proceedings, the HC also cleared Falu of the charges as he was not involved in any criminal offence mentioned in the case, his lawyer Khandker Mahbub Hossain told The Daily Star.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station against Falu and few others on charge of misappropriating government's relief materials in 2007.

Later, a Dhaka court framed charges against Falu and others in the case. Falu has been on bail in the case for a long time, he added.

The ACC is yet to decide whether it will move any appeal before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court against the HC verdict, said its lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan.
