High Court today directed the concerned authorities to take adequate safety measures in the Moghbazaar-Mouchak flyover area within 15 days to avoid accidents.

The court also issued a rule upon the concerned authorities and the construction company to explain in four weeks as to why they should not be directed to give compensation to the family member of Rabbi Ahmed Emon, a construction worker who died after an iron rod fell on his head, on March 16.

The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice Krishna Debnath gave the order and rule following a writ petition by the Supreme Court Lawyer Amit Das Gupta.

Amit Das Gupta submitted the petition on March 17 seeking necessary order from the HC to direct the government and construction officials in compensating Emon’s family.

The respondents to this directive are: Secretary to Local Government Rural Development, chief engineer of Local Government Engineering Division, deputy commissioner of Dhaka, commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, project manager of the flyover and managing director of Toma construction.

Emon had been working on the Eskaton construction site of the flyover, when the accident took place.

He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
