Give MPO facilities to 43 teachers immediately: HC

The High Court (HC) yesterday directed the government to immediately provide Monthly Payment Order (MPO) facilities to 43 teachers from different schools and colleges across the country.

The bench of Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam and Justice Mohammad Ali issued the directive after hearing on four separate writ petitions filed by the teachers seeking necessary orders.

The petitioners have been discharging their duties as teachers with due diligence for a long period of time, Advocate Mohammad Siddique Ullah Miah told The Daily Star.

However, they are not getting MPO facilities although most of their colleagues are enjoying the benefits, he added.

Earlier on March 22 this year, HC had directed the government to give MPO facilities to another 308 teachers across the country.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the government would take up a scheme soon to bring non-government educational institutions under the MPO coverage.

She informed parliament that government has brought 137,546 teachers and staff of non-government secondary schools, colleges and madrasas under MPO coverage since 2009.
