HC issues contempt rule against Dhaka edu board chairman

The High Court yesterday issued a contempt of court rule against Dhaka education board chairman and three others for not complying with its order over holding election to the managing committee of a high school in the capital.

In the rule, the court asked the five to explain in four weeks why contempt of court proceedings should not be launched against them for violating its order.

In the order, issued on June 5 this year, the HC had asked them to hold an election for selecting the managing committee of Bhashantek High School in Dhaka in 90 days.

The bench of Justice Quazi Reza-Ul-Hoque and Justice Mohammad Ullah issued the rule after hearing a contempt of court petition filed by Khaled Mohammad Amran, guardian of a student of the school.

The other contemnors are school inspector of  Dhaka education board, head teacher of Bhasantek High School and chairman of the school's managing committee, petitioner's lawyer Advocate Eunus Ali Akond told The Daily Star.

He said following a writ petition, the HC on June 5 ordered the respondents to hold the election of the school's managing committee in 90 days after receiving the order.

Although they received the HC order on July 10, they did not comply with it, Advocate Eunus added.b
