HC grants anticipatory bail to BNP leader Helal

The High Court yesterday granted a six-month anticipatory bail to BNP leader Azizul Baree Helal in three criminal cases, clearing his way to walk out of the jail.

The bench of Justice Muhammad Abdul Hafiz and Justice Md Shohrowardi granted the bail following three bail petitions filed in connection with the cases against him.

Helal secured bail in three cases filed with Paltan, Motijheel and Ramna police stations in Dhaka on charges of vandalising and torching vehicles during the anti-government agitation by BNP-led alliance in 2015, said Advocate M Masud Rana.

The BNP leader, who stands accused in 43 cases, is now free to walk out of jail after receiving bail in all the cases filed against him, he said. Earlier, Helal secured bail in the other 40 cases filed against him.

Helal was arrested on January 31 this year from Moghbazar area in Dhaka on charge of attacking police and snatching two BNP activists from a prison van in the Supreme Court area on January 30.
