HC declares Darul Ihsan Univ illegal

Declaring all activities of Darul Ihsan University (DIU) illegal, the High Court yesterday said that the DIU authorities cannot run it as an academic institution for not complying with the laws.

The HC gave the verdict after hearing 13 writ petitions filed by a group of people and students claiming ownership of DIU at different times.

The HC yesterday directed a former deputy director of the University Grant Commission and a senior assistant secretary of the education ministry to deposit Tk 5 lakh each to the state fund for their reckless decisions about DIU, Deputy Attorney General Khurshidul Alam told The Daily Star.

The senior assistant secretary had issued a notice in 2001 permitting the DIU authorities to open outer campus and the UGC official in 2007 permitted them to open LLB course, although the DIU had no permission to run any activities, he said.
