HC asks govt to stop illegal cutting of hills at Pahartoli Mouja in Ctg

The High Court yesterday directed the government to immediately stop unauthorised cutting and destruction of hills at Pahartoli Mouja under Chittagong City Corporation.

Responding to a writ petition filed by Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers' Association (Bela), the court also issued a rule asking the government to explain in four weeks why cutting and destroying hills should not be declared illegal and why it should not be directed to prevent such activities. The organisation recently submitted the petition saying that the local ward councillor has been illegally cutting and damaging the hills in Pahartoli Mouja, measuring 10.51 acres.
