Hawker stabbed dead at Chandni Chowk market

A hawker was stabbed dead and another injured during an altercation with a fellow at Chandni Chowk market in Dhaka this afternoon.

Deceased Khokon Mollah, 24, a resident of Kamrangirchar, used to sell clothes on a foot over-bridge in New Market area. The injured Babul Bepari, 40, was undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition, police said.

Khokon, Babul locked into an altercation with Shahabuddin after they had lunch in the restaurant there around 3:00pm, said Maruf Hossain Sorder, deputy commissioner (DC) of Ramna Division.

At one stage, Shahabuddin stabbed his fellows and managed to flee the scene, the DC said adding that the reason behind the altercation could not be known immediately.

Shahabuddin has a cosmetics stall in the area, said Shamim Mollah, the brother-in-law of Khokon.
