Habiganj boat capsize kills four

At least four people -- three women and a child -- were killed as a boat capsized in the Khowai river of Habiganj yesterday around 8:30pm.

Several others also went missing, said Mohammad Yasinul Haque, officer-in-charge of Habiganj Police Station.

The two deceased are Abala Sarkar, 47, wife of Sudhan Sarkar from Batirpool area of the town, and Mukta Rani Das, 4, daughter of Haripada Das of Bhabanipur village in Baniachang upazila.

The identity of the other victims could not be known immediately.

Mohammad Ahad Mia, chairman of Makrampur Union Parishad in Baniachang, said they were searching for the others.

The boat capsized in Lambabagh area of the river.

It was heading towards Radhapur from Chowdhury Bazar area of Habiganj town.
