Gold recovered from man’s rectum at Dhaka airport

Customs officials detained a person with eight gold bars hidden inside his body at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport this afternoon.

Soon after boarding off from a Dubai flight around 5:13pm, Md Abu Bakar was challenged by the custom authorities for having gold bars with him, Rezaul Karim, assistant commissioner of customs, told The Daily Star.

At first Bakar denied, but later admitted of carrying the gold bars, fearing he might have undergone surgery, the custom official said.

Later, at the airport toilet, he managed to push the eight gold bars, worth Tk 45 lakhs, through his rectum, Rezaul added.

One hundred gram of ornaments was also recovered from his possession.
