Girl 'raped, killed' in Barisal

Barisal airport police arrested a truck driver in his Kashipur residence on Tuesday afternoon for allegedly killing an eight-year-old girl after rape in Barisal city.

Barisal Metrapolitan Police (BMP) yesterday in a press briefing said 40-year-old Abul Kalam Azad Kalu, father of three, confessed to the crime during primary interrogation.

On Sunday, Kalu raped the little girl when she went to his house, near her Ganapara Govt Primary School, to relieve herself during tiffin break as the only toilet in the school was not flushing. He then strangled her and dumped the body in a sack in a graveyard near his house.

A murder case was filed. Students and guardians formed a human chain on the school premises, protesting the incident yesterday.

A Barisal court yesterday sent Kalu to jail.
