4 murdered in 3 dists

At least four people were killed in different parts of the country in the last 24 hours till yesterday.

In Munshiganj, miscreants hacked to death two persons at Kandipara under Tongibari upazila of the district Saturday night over land dispute. 

The dead are Shah Alam Khan, 55, and his neighbour Ali Hossain Sheikh, 50.

Shah Alam's brother Akhter Khan said the victims were returning home from Kunder Bazar in the upazila. As soon as they reached Shah Alam's house yard, a group of people, including Nasir Mollah, Rusell Mollah and Sohel Mollah -- three brothers, hacked the duo, he alleged.

Shah Alam was taken to Munshiganj General Hospital where doctors declared him dead. Ali Hossain, was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday.

Shah Alam's wife filed a murder case with Tongibari Police Station yesterday accusing 14 people.  

Police arrested five persons -- Fazal Khan, 55, Tania Akhter Swarna, 27, Nadia Akhter, 25, and Nayan Tara, 55, and Ayesha Begum, 18 -- in connection with the murder.

Officer-in-Charge Md Yardous Hasan said a land dispute case between Shah Alam and the attackers had been pending with the court for the last five years. 

Superintendent of Police Md Zayedul Alam visited the spot. Additional police personnel were deployed in the area.

Meanwhile, an auto-rickshaw driver was murdered in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur yesterday, reports our correspondent in the district.

The deceased is Mosrafa Kamal, 45, son of late Sekander Ali of Khirati in Moddhopara village.

Asaduzzaman, the victim's brother, said Mostafa had a heated argument with Golap Mia and Abul -- two brothers -- on Saturday evening over a piece of land. Following that, the duo along with some others attacked Mostafa with sharp weapons and sticks, he alleged.

On information, police rescued the body.

Shawkat Hossain, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Kapasia Police Station, said Mostafa's wife Rina Begum filed a case on Saturday night.

In connection with the case, police arrested Feroza Begum, 40, Renu Akhter, 40, and Nazma Akhter, 36, in Kapasia bus stand area while the trio were trying to flee. 

The body was sent to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College for an autopsy, said the ASI. 

Our Narayanganj correspondent reports, police yesterday recovered a body of a student from a ditch in Fatullah.

The deceased is Shahriar Mahmud Shuvro, 21, of Lalpur area. 

Sub-inspector Fazlul Huq of Fatullah Model Police Station said the victim's hands and neck were tied up with rope.

The deceased's father Kamal said Shahriar had gone missing since Friday. In his regard, he filed a general diary on Saturday.

He said neighbours had seen Shahriar leaving the house at 6:00am. But his phone was found switched off when family members tried to reach him at 9:00am.  

He was the third year student of Government Tolaram College in Narayanganj and was working as an online operator in a local daily, Dainik Juger Chinta.
