Four lives lost in road accidents

At least four persons died and 12 others sustained injuries in road accidents across the country yesterday.

In Sirajganj, Md Shahinur Rahman, 35 and another unidentified person were killed early yesterday after a Dhaka-bound passenger bus collided with a pickup van on Bonpara-Hatikumrul highway, police said.

Shahin succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital while the other died on the way.

 Ten others who suffered injuries were admitted to nearby hospitals.

In Savar, motorcycle passenger Abul Hashem, 35, died on spot when a Dhaka-bound pick-up van hit the motorbike from behind on Dhaka-Aricha highway, reports our correspondent.

The bike-rider Jabed Miah was injured in the incident. Police seized the vehicle but the driver managed to flee. Meanwhile, 550 bottles of phensedyl were recovered from the vehicle, police added.

In Chittagong, an unidentified man aged around fifty was injured after being hit by a truck in the port city, witnesses said.

He was rushed to the Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH), where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile in Sirajganj, Journalist Pankaj Kanti Dey, district reporter of privately-run ATN Bangla, was injured in a road accident, reports our correspondent.

He was hit and run over by a human haulier in front of Zila Parishad office in the district town.

He is currently under treatment at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
