Five JMB men held, remanded in Gaibandha

Police arrested five activists of banned militant outfit Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Bujruk Boali village in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha yesterday.

The arrestees are Saiful Islam,29, son of Lal Mia, Shaheed Mia,18, son of Total Mia, Hyder Ali,20, son of Jamir Mia, Omar Faruk,25, son of late Alepuddin, and Ratan,23, son of Ataur Rahman , all hailing from the upazila.

Mozammel Hoq, officer-in-charge of Gobindaganj Police Station, said acting on a tip-off, a Gobindaganj police team raided the village and arrested the five from the rented house of Saiful Islam around 11:00am when they were holding a closed-door meeting about their operations.

"Sensing the presence of police, other participants managed to flee the scene", the OC said, adding that police also recovered huge Jihadi books from the house.

Police produced them before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate ASM Taskinul Huq the same day with a 10-day remand prayer for each, and it granted a 5-day remand each.
