First grader among 4 killed in road crashes

At least four persons including a first grader were killed in road accidents across the country yesterday.

In Jhalakathi, first grader Roney, 6, was killed after being hit by a battery-run auto-rickshaw on Barisal-Patharghata road in Rajarpur, said police.

The accident took place in front of Rajarpur Shohag Clinic after he visited an ailing relative along with his family, said the victim's father.

In Narayanganj, a youth was killed after being hit by a human haulier on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway near Siddhirganj Sanaarpar area in the morning, reports our correspondent. The deceased is Saimon, 27, of Patuakhali. Police arrested the driver, said Jasimuddin, sub-inspector of Siddhirganj Police Station.

In Madaripur, Alaf Sorder, 30, was killed as a truck ran him over on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Ghotoker Char area, said OC Kamrul Hasan of Madaripur Sadar Police Station.

The incident injured his wife Chaina Begum and the rickshaw-van puller. They were taken to a local hospital.

Meanwhile in Bandarban, Krishna Rani Dey, 53, was killed after being run over by a stone-laden truck, reports our correspondent. The truck driver fled the scene.
