Fires gut valuables worth Tk 14 lakh

Valuables worth about Tk 14 lakh were gutted by fires in Chittagong city and in Hathazari upazila early yesterday.

At the upazila's Najumiahat, a fire, originating from an electric short circuit, damaged valuables, worth Tk 4 lakh, at a workshop, two garages of CNG-run auto-rickshaws and an almirah shop. Fire fighters doused the fire within 20 minutes.

Another fire broke out from an electric short circuit at a candle making factory and its warehouse and gutted valuables worth Tk 5 lakh in the upazila's Alipur. Fire fighters doused the fire in two and a half hours.

Meanwhile, in the port city's Bakalia, a fire started from an electric short circuit at a tin-roofed house and soon engulfed four others. There were 26 rooms in the five houses. Fire fighters doused the fire almost within an hour.
