The fire that broke out at Bashundhara City shopping complex this morning originated from a luggage shop on C-block, Level-6, of the mall, an eye witness said.

“It was around 11:15am and I was opening the mobile shop where I work when I heard several people shouting fire, fire,” said Tajul Islam, an eye witness of the Bashundhara City shopping complex fire.

“I rushed to a luggage shop from where the fire originated and saw that smoke was coming out from the spot,” Tajul said.

I wanted to see what was happening but security personnel urged me to exit the place immediately, Tajul added.

Tajul works at Iran Communication Tools, a mobile shop at C-Block of the sixth floor of the one of the biggest shopping malls in South Asia.

Tajul is one of the four employees of the shop owned by his uncle Suman Bhuiya.

“If the fire has spread over there, we will suffer a great loss,” Tajul told our correspondent around 1:15pm.
