Fire guts 10 houses, 10 shops, madrasa in capital

A fire in the capital's Bhasantek slum gutted 10 tin-shed houses, as many tin-roofed shops and a madrasa early yesterday.

No casualty was reported in the blaze originated around 12:07am.

Thirteen firefighting units brought the fire under control within an hour but it took them five more hours to douse it completely, said Rasel Sikder, a duty officer at the fire service and civil defence headquarters.

Some 50 families lived in those 10 houses, said locals.

The fire broke out in one of the houses and spread out immediately. The cause of the fire is under investigation, Rasel said.
