Fire at commercial building in Motijheel

A fire broke out at a seven-storey commercial building at Motijheel in Dhaka this afternoon.

The blazed originated on first floor around 3:20pm when the building was still closed, duty officer at Motijheel Police Station, told The Daily Star.

The fire engulfed the Bangladesh Industrial Finance Company Limited (BIFC) office on first floor and a private bank on the second floor.

Nine units of firefighters were trying to douse the fire till 10:15pm.

Rafiqul Islam, assistant director of Fire Service, fell sick from the smoke billowing out the building during the firefighting effort and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and is still under observation.

The reason behind the fire and its damages could not be ascertained immediately.
