Film actor Tonu held over raping woman

Film actor and model Tanvir Rahman Tonu has been arrested at his Rupnagar residence in Mirpur of Dhaka in a case filed over raping a woman.

The arrest was made on Friday afternoon after the woman, an executive of a private firm, had filed the rape case, said Rupnagar Police Station Inspector Mokammel Hoque, also investigation officer of the case.

The woman claimed that she was introduced through Facebook with Tonu who promised her with a better job in Malaysia.

She alleged that Tonu asked her to go to his house on May 6 around 10:00pm and raped her there in the presence of one of his friends.

She alleged that before raping her Tonu gave her drink mixed with sedatives. He let her go around 6:30am, the IO said.

Asked about Tonu's friend, the IO said they will take action, if he is found involved in it.

A Dhaka court yesterday sent Tonu to jail when police produced him before it with a five-day remand prayer.

Tonu appeared in a number of movies, including “Full and Final”, “Gunda”, and “Khas Zamin”.
