FF shot dead in Khulna

Five others also injured in the gun attack

A freedom fighter, also an Awami League leader, was shot dead allegedly by his rivals in Hamidnagar of Rayer Mahal area in Khulna city yesterday night.

The deceased, Sahadat Hossain Mollah, 62, Liberation War affairs secretary of Sonadanga unit of Awami League, was also a retired army officer.

Victim's nephew and eyewitness Dilu Khan said Sahadat was drinking tea at a tea stall around 9:00pm when five to six miscreants shot him dead.

Five people who were present on the spot were also hit by bullets.

Sumon Ranjon Sarker, assistant senior commissioner of the city special branch of Khulna police, said locals chased the miscreants and caught one Ajom, 32, a local who was hit by a bullet when Sahadat shot fire in retaliation with his licensed gun.

The injured were sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital. One of them was was later sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Siddiqur Rahman Bulu Biswas, president of Sonadanga Awami League, said rivals might have killed Sahadat over establishing supremacy in Boyra and Rayer Mahal areas.

Police arrested one who has a long standing dispute with the victim, said Bulu.

No case has been lodged till filing of this report.
